Founding Meeting of Moner Alo Society Held on 15 September 2025

A founding meeting was held today to establish Moner Alo Society, a non-political and non-profit voluntary organization dedicated to promoting mental well-being, social responsibility, and community empowerment across Bangladesh. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Ohiul Islam, with Dr. Md. Mahid Sheikh serving as the convener. Renowned businessman and social worker Dr. Md. Abdur Rahim attended the event as the chief guest.

The establishment of Moner Alo Society is inspired by the vision of creating “a mentally healthy, socially responsible, and empowered society where every individual—regardless of background, ability, or circumstance—can live with dignity, resilience, and purpose.”

During the meeting, participants endorsed the mission of the organization, which focuses on enhancing mental health awareness, providing inclusive psychosocial support, and working for the welfare of vulnerable communities. The organization aims to drive sustainable development through education, healthcare, skill development, disaster response, and community empowerment, particularly for rural and marginalized populations.

Key Objectives Discussed

The founding members reviewed and adopted a comprehensive set of goals and objectives, including:

  • Expanding mental health services through counseling, psychotherapy, awareness campaigns, and community-based support.
  • Promoting child welfare, non-formal education, and modern learning opportunities.
  • Supporting youth with training, income-generating activities, and entrepreneurship development.
  • Assisting acid survivors, distressed women, and people with disabilities through rehabilitation and skill development.
  • Creating awareness about family planning, maternal and child healthcare, hygiene, nutrition, and water safety.
  • Strengthening community leadership, social responsibility, and poverty alleviation initiatives.
  • Establishing cottage industries, vocational training, and self-employment programs for disadvantaged groups.
  • Implementing disaster response, rehabilitation activities, and environmental conservation initiatives.
  • Supporting national development efforts through partnerships with government and non-government organizations.
  • Building social movements against drug abuse, dowry, and harmful social practices.

Speakers emphasized the importance of obtaining government approval before implementing any program under the organization’s mandate, as per NGO Bureau and other regulatory authorities.

A Step Toward Sustainable Social Development

Chief Guest Dr. Md. Abdur Rahim praised the initiative and expressed hope that Moner Alo Society would contribute significantly to improving mental health services and social development in Bangladesh. Convener Dr. Md. Mahid Sheikh highlighted the growing need for community-based psychosocial support, especially for children, adolescents, and underprivileged groups.

President of the meeting, Mr. Mohiul Islam, thanked all attendees and stressed the need for collective effort to build an inclusive and empowered society.
